This engine was in my dad's cabrio for a short while untill we decided to go a different route with the car.
It was built in June 2010 and has run a total of + - 1 hour with max 5000rpm and 0.3 bar boost.

The specs are:
CU engine case
Type 4 71mm crankshaft with balanced rods
New mains, big ends and cam bushes when it was built.
Magirus Deutz sleeves that has been shortened and opened up
Chev v8 60 oversize pistons (103mm)
Vanderlinde cut cam, mild enough for turbo but still enough duration for n/a as well. I think it was a 272'
CJ cylinder heads that have been opened up for the Magirus Deutz sleeves. Stock porting and stock valves.
8,5:1 compression (If I remember correctly)
Stock t4 oil cooler
2lt flywheel

Here's what the engine sounded like with the turbo. It has plenty torque and runs really nice!!!

Not included that you will see on the video:
Fan housing, crank pulley, electronic distributor, intake manifolds upwards and oil cooler adaptor. These will be bolted to the engine we intend using with the turbo. So basically just the engine is for sale.

I have not decided on a price yet... but am open to offers. Please pm if you are interested

Hi,

If Pierre doesn't take it and you're not in a hurry I will be interested. What will I need to convert it to upright for a Beetle?

Thanks
Wentzel

To convert you will need:

-Upright fan housing converion (IMPI, Volkspares or make one yourself. google Joe Cali conversion)
-Carburetor, dual carbs or custom intake manifolds for a throttle body
-External oil cooler
-Exhaust system
-1800 flywheel and clutch assembly

Hi
Are the pistons forged or cast?

Thanks
Mario

I'm not sure... I think they were cast pistons. Will check tonight as I still have 4 left from that specific set.

SJOE!
You boosted that motor? 8,5:1 compression and cast pistons?

I hope you were behind a lexan screen

The best offer I can do is R3500, on condition that I can have a look at the piston tops?

These are the pistons:

The make is Badger. It is a hypereutectic piston. So basically a new generation cast piston.
You boosted that motor? 8,5:1 compression and cast pistons?
Yes, it was boosted, but only 0.3bar. That is basically just an altitude compensator. Going to the coast from where we are it's as good as running 0.2 bar boost. The air pressure in JHB is around 83kpa... at the coast 101kpa. If the pistons cannot handle that kind of boost... then they are crap.
The best offer I can do is R3500
Mmmn... no thank you
on condition that I can have a look at the piston tops?
The engine is in perfect condition... I am in no doubt of that. On request I can start the engine for the prospective buyer to check. Once the buyer has paid then he can do whatever he wants.. like open the engine.
