VW aanwysings handboek

Post by Muderick »

Hello guys

Anybody know how rare or common this is?

http://capetown-westerncape.gumtree.co. ... Z380242477

Same like the samba.com pic attached, but in Afrikaans. Its says on the cover "VW aanwysings handboek"... "Sedan en Afslaankap"

Printed in Germany, and came out of his moms 58 Beetle.

The Guy said its about 100 pages with fold out double page of Beetle's Cross section in colour at the back.

Retrobug

I have a sneeking suspision that this one in Afrikaans is all the more special. All in, these manual are scarce in English, or even German. But I think finding one in Afrikaans is all the more rare, especially as they were normally printed in English for the SA market.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Muds I've never even seen an Afrifaans one! :o
Have you bought it?
My copy in english was very well used by it's old owners, but I like it like that!
It has tons of character! :hangloose:
I assume in mint condition and in Afrikaans it might be worth a couple of $!

I have an afrikaans one! It was the one issued with Daisy the day she was bought new in Bloem by Judge E.K.W Lichtenberg. It has his name and the date stamped in there. I also have a receipt for a radio that was installed the day it was bought. It's all hand written. Unfortunately someone (I imagine Lichtenberg's son as he drove it next) upgraded the car to 12 Volt so that original radio was replaced :(.

My Afrikaans manual is in remarkable condition :D

@ retrobug, yes I did... it actually turned into a bit of a bidding war as he had some other guys as far as JHB and PTA wanting it.

@ Gav... post a pic when u get a chance plz... let me know what radio was purchased according to the invoice. I might be able to help you with one, a Standard issue Sanyo or even a Blaupunkt!

Mine is mint as well. Looks unused.

Hi Muds,

Cool! I'll take some shots or scan it in for you guys to check out. I'll probably only get to uploading pics on Monday as my laptop at home has packed up.

There is an old radio in Daisy that works - obviously 12v. Attached is the best pic I can find. (Sorry if this is considered a hijack :( ).

That's the first German published Afrikaans VW owner's manual I've seen. From about 1966/67 VWSA published their own owner's manuals, based on the German one, but with English in one half and Afrikaans in the other.

The Wolfsburg published owner's manuals were available in the languages of all the countires VWs were exported to. I had a 58 owner's manual in Portuguese, which I gave to calooker. An Afrikaans manual is definitely very rare, although the market for them won't be huge; probably only South Africans and oversaeas collectors who want owner's manuals in all languages. It's really only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.

So here's mine. I thought mine was in a lot better condition, alas, not mint. I found the instruction booklet for the original Phillips radio which is also in Afrikaans. The Radio booklet has both English and Afrikaans. Amongst the paperwork, I found the radio purchase receipt too confirming date of installation, 1962. How's about those prices?
