Advice Needed

Post by SK0069 »

Hi All,

Firstly I must say how I missed this site, as I was last logged on many many years ago.

I have a 1976 VW Beetle and need a little advice, I started the restoration process about a year and a half ago, and due to work and family matters, it got left behind, so I decided to start it up again.

Had a look at it this morning and noticed most of my hard work has paid off to zero.

I woould like to know the process or steps to follow when getting it up and running so that I dont break it further.

Heres a brief on the car:

Body needs work, complete paint restore as there is luckly only surface rust.
The motor swings no hassles, idles like a baby, did the motor up the last time with the help of the forum
The tank was pulled out this morning as the fuel was contaminated, as I was draining it, noticed lots of rust and build up in it, new tank or repair?
interior will need a whole new make over.

Looking forward to redoing the car, as my wife kept telling to me to sell it as its taking up space in the yard, but a little bug on my shoulder kept telling me no. :D

So where do i start with the car,

Thanks a mil guys.

Start by coming up with a (comprehensive) plan....figure where time and $$$ can/will be best spent.
Write it down.

Only you know what you want out of it though, or what is important to you in a car. Your priorities dictate what you tackle first. I like to get a car:
1. Safe
2. Reliable
3. Looking how I want it.
4. Performing how I want it.
