Before stripping and cutting started
Cutting starts!
The bak was shortened quite a bit
Back cut off
The truck light holes will be filled up
Shortened
Little bit of fairing prior to laminating
Checking rough fit of back panel
Size of new back seat.There will be a mini 'boot' behind the rear seat for storage
Structural foam for behind back panel to prevent it becoming to floppy
Bare with me while I sort out the bugs with uploading pics

hi good luck with the modifications youre making to your buggy
just a question ,why dont you drop the front part of your rear seat by another 10-15cm then youll have the rear passengers sitting in the car instead of ontop of the gearbox,thats what im planning on doing with my buggy.
something similar to this pic on thesamba
buggy rearseat.jpg
end up with a proper 4seater buggy

Hi Buggyfan,
I've been pondering on this myself. There is a steel frame under the bak and I would have to modify this or make up a new one. I'll give it some more thought and maybe will do some more cutting !! I'm busy making up a small mould for a battery tray that I want to drop into the back seat.
I'm now looking for rear lights for the buggy and a good looking steering wheel. It's an old school buggy so I want parts that will match.
Cheers

Any advice on re-lining a petrol tank. It's a standard beetle tank and is solid but the inside keeps flaking off rust so the filters keep getting clogged. I've seen on thesamba that the guys clean the inside and have a liquid poured inside that sets hard.
Anything in S.A like that ?

@Buggyfan
Where would the battery be moved to in that configuration? I quite like the idea, as leg room (at the back) is basically non-existing in a normal buggy.
@VWrail
Looking good! Always in awe with some peoples skill with fibreglass and fabrication!

@Loopy
Thats only possible with a lwb buggy,the battery goes underneath the rear seat bottom like in a standard beetle

Update.
Most of the bodywork is now complete. I'll be towing the buggy to our factory this weekend to prime and spray. The colour will be light orange because I have it 'in-stock' with windscreen and side panels in a light cream colour.
I made a simple mold for the battery tray last week. All I need to do now is glass it in
I think it looks almost like a standard buggy from the side
Doesn't look bad from the back either!!! I'm trying to decide if I should put a cover over the motor that I can also mod to fit or if I should leave it. The pulley cover will be finished in carbon fibre anyway. Any suggestions??
I am modifying the windscreen to run a rope-track for the bikini cover at the moment.
cheers for now!!

Hey vw rail,
My dad rented your house, (the downstairs section) one December when a few years ago.
What factory do you have?
Cheers

Hi Julien,
We have rented this house for three years now but it was rented out to holiday makers before.
I work for a yacht building company called Tag Yachts. Check the website at
http://www.tagyachts.com .
I am a boat builder/ cabinetmaker and am in charge of the internal spraying and furniture making and installation.
I will spray the buggy in the main factory where the yacht is also being faired and sprayed. We have fans that are about 1.8m tall so that should get rid of overspray
\I have learnt a heck of a lot about plug and mould making working for Tag and hope to one day make a mold for a type 182.
Cheers
Dave
