Drum-to-disk conversion

Post by Rincewind »

Im interested in converting my '66 Ghia to disk brakes on the front. Does any1 know where i can get this done and how much it'l cost? Also do you think its worth the expense? Would this make the car's value drop because it's "less original"?

It depends whether you want to keep the car, or uprade it to sell. Almost ANY modification is reversible, albeit with the time and $$$ implication. Have your (existing) drums skimmed, and the brake shoes bonded, and take it to a brake guru. You'll be amazed at the 'stock' stopping ability of your Ghia once that is done. Then decide if you still want to go the disk brake route.. It is money that can be well spent elsewhere.

Summit Brake & Steering (Rivonia) <== HIGHLY recommended, along with Star Brakes & Clutches.

Got the brakes overhauled on my bus, and our '62 at Summit, along with other 'dubs. Star bonded my brakes in record time with no hassles.

Service is very good, the work is flawless at both, and the price is right.

Thanx for the advice. Think I'l try getting the stock brakes overhauled for now. I think the Ghia needed that anyway. It pulls left whenever I brake!

Conversion to disks is simple and in my opinion a upgrade worth doing, the change in braking perfomance is like night and day, save your money on upgrading your current setup, and just go the disk route, give me a call I can set you up with any further info you might need.
