1978 Clearance for 2l Golf Motor

I measured the clearance under the load bay of the crewbus and it is 395mm from the centre of the spigot shaft to the bottom of the support beams under the load bay.

The 2L Golf motor, if it stands upright measures 515mm from the centre of the clutch plate to the top, a difference of 120mm. Do you fit the engine at an angle to get it in below the load bay or do you increase the height of the load bay (which i do not really wan to do).

Can anybody help?

I think with the angle that it sits, on my 2.0 motor it dropped it by about 25mm due to the angle, but I think that the lid needs to be lifted as well for a bus.

VW Ran a 1.8 motor in the t3 busses that sat at a angle ,(no raised engine lid) I cant remeber now whether the bellhousing was different or if it had a adaptor to accomadate the angle on the gearbox side , I do know they ran a different sump and oil pick. These are impossible to find as they were only fitted to 1.8 t3's.
