hi,
Here's a shot in the dark.
I had a blue/white roof early 1970s combi in Durban in 1993. It had a large dent in the front panel and I had cut a large access hole in the rear to access the engine from above. I used to do my maintenance on the road side with minimal tools as I was travelling and money was tight. It took me from Durbs, north to Kruger and onwards to eventually Kariba, west on the lake to the falls then along the Caprivi which was not all black top then, and south from Etohsa to Capetown and everything in between.
On the way it required a new fuel filter and an exhaust which fell off as I entered Etosha.
On the way back thru the Karoo to Kimberley it wouldn't start in the morning and was pronounced dead with a cracked case.
The AA kicked it into life and it took a one stop for petrol trip back to Morningside Durbs as the AA man told me it would never start again if stopped. Filling for petrol with engine running was done some how, maybe the attendant didn't hear the engine running!!! I was relieved to be rolling down the hill into Durbs late in the dark and some what stressed. But it did 95kph all the way. So much oil was leaking I thought best to keep it circulating at top speed! 800km I think.
Anyway, does anyone have an all seater combi with an access hole cut above the engine? It wasn't a tidy job as I used a broken hacksaw.
Just a thought,
Alex

Re: blue/white combi memories
Hi Alex, my split was blue and white with a huge cut out above the engine, it's wasn't a 60's rather than 70's bus ?
