Hi I have suddenly been over whelmed by some type four engines I have never had so many being built at the same time or washed so many filthy parts
On the bench at the moment is quite a selection of engines all in different configurations and styles:
1 2056cc engine for an autovilla sporting 2.1 wbx FI
specs: 96mm keith black pistons 42x36 valves web cam
2 2056cc engine for a split bus featuring an upright conversion and webers
specs: 96mm keith black pistons 42x36 valves web cam
3 2035cc engine for a bug featuring an upright conversion and aftermarket FI
specs: 95.5mm ks pistons 42x36 valves van der linde cam
4 2337cc engine for a bay featuring wbx FI
102.35 bore custom sleeves,71 stroke, scat c25 cam,42x36 valves
5 2140cc engine for myself still undecided on induction or turbo
101.6bore 66mm stroke 48 x 38 valves (ex skyline) cam to be decided
The first four are in an advanced stage with the first trail assebmbly being done
last one still needs a few bits to complete.
I will start posting pics when the parts are clean and on the respective stands and just to make things interesting there is a stock 1600 in the mix as well.

As can be seen most engines are for bus use and therefore built for grunt rather than outright power.
the 2140 on the other hand already gave 180hp with a t3 turbo and FI
regards
Armand

Hi I have been busy trail assembling and setting endplay as well as porting the heads

Image
Parts for the 2.3
Image
setting a std 2 liter piston in the barrel 94 mm to 101.6mm
Image
Heads with larger valves

Image
Mods to cam gears for bolting to camshaft
Image
Fuel pump block offs
Image
Bearing added to flywheel for beetle box fitment
Image
Mods to oil pump cover for type one oil pump mod
Image
Image
Type four weak spot: tighten the sump plate too much and you break the block. repairs and mods to prevent this as well as control oil surge
Image

Welded an machined
Image
the baffles sit against the bottom of the block thus preventing the damage caused by overtightening

Bigger valves installed

Very nice Armand I am still deciding which route to take with my type 4. May I ask where is the best place to source parts for these engines? Cam, followers etc or will it be best to import?

Thanks
Wentzel
