Registering my Karmann Ghia
Hi guys
I really need help on the way forward on my Project Helena, my 1960 Karmann ghia. She was purchased in St Helena Bay,it has no papers and only came with an afidavit from the Previous owner stating that the car was given to him by his friend many years ago before he passed away. It also states that the car was not on the road.
My plan was to get the car driving and find all parts to get the car looking road ready.
My dilemma is that the ghia has a chassis number, but the body number is missing.
What is the way forward?
Any advice?
Regards
Roscoe

Re: Registering my Karmann Ghia
Hi guys
I got some news from a vehicle registration office. They said that there is no record of my Ghia's chassis number on the system and if I were to go for Police Clearance they would keep my car, so now I am worried cause I don't know what to do...

Re: Registering my Karmann Ghia
Sounds like the usual making the rules up as they go along. AFAIK, if the VIN is not on the system, then you can register the vehicle as built-up by following the normal process.
It is unlawful for the police to impound a vehicle unless it is reported stolen or they have a court order.

Re: Registering my Karmann Ghia
The oval Im busy with is also not on the system. The traffic dept told me the same as what FIG said.
Just register it as a built-up vehicle.

Hi, so what happens next? Are you liable for the arrears or do they write it off?

Re: Registering my Karmann Ghia
I think I have to pay it, or according to Donovan, I should write them a letter asking if they can reduce it, after that is all sorted...then I can continue with Police Clearance, Data dot, Weigh Bridge, etc.
