Cape Town bus get together?

Post by Donovan D »

Hey guys. This is pointed towards the CPT bus crowd.
Would anyone be interested in a bus only get together? Maybe a drive up the west coast and stop and braai somewhere like Melkbos or Yzerfontein?

I would join, but what about something a little more. Perhaps travel a little further up a more scenic route and include an evening stop over somewhere? Turn it more into a road trip get together.

Sounds promising - maybe a drive up the West Coast to Yzerfontein for the night at a camping spot? I'd say you'd need 5 kombi's or more to make it worthwhile though :)

A scenic drive and sleep over sounds good.
Any suggestions on a route and place to stay over ?

Sounds great I'm in! Have not stayed in ysterfontein but been to melkbos, langabaan and titties bay. From Durbanville, Langebaan is 1hour 30min ish so not to far in a van at 80km. Good enough camp sit at about R115 a night with walking distance to shops and beach.

Well, lets keep it close for the guys that don't want to drive far then.

Route 62 to maybe Montague or Barrydale?
R44 through to Portaville (camp at Beaverlac or 22 Watervalle)
R60 to McGregor
Can even be as close as Robertson, there are plenty camp sites along the Breede river to consider. I know a few that are quite non-commercial which will leave plenty space to park the busses and not offend any neighbours close by.

I'm also keen on the west coast...maybe as far as Langbaan or Paternoster... far enough to want to sleep over... yzerfontein is too close. Camp over sounds good. Somewhere where we can camp and sleep in our buses too.

Partners too or just the boys? Either way I'm in.

I'm all up for a bit of a cruise. We should make this over a weekend when most of the guys will be able to make this and of course not rain out.
So what about end of this month? Saturday 30th May ? Weather dependant.

I guess a saturday sleepover would be better ? No problems with partners and kids joining.

Sounds like a plan Don... also, Langebaan has Leentjiesklip, Oostewal, and See Bries Park camp sites, of which Leentjiesklip is the nicest.

So a Saturday early morning departure, a stop or 2 along the way, maybe drive through the West Coast National park for some Photo opportunities, and out the other side, and camp braai sleep over in Langebaan the Saturday night...On Sunday maybe lunch in Paternoster on some seafood / crayfish etc... and then a scenic drive home on Sunday, stopping in Yzerfontein to shake up Eben's hometown and then a cruise down through Blouberg along the coast all the way home.

What do you think Don /guys?
