On Saturday,I got this whatsapp picture from him:

It is a 1970 Beetle, totally unmolested, all original, with 59K miles on the clock.
It still has the old white on black number plates
With original, undamaged interior:

And complete, unmolested engine

It has no rust whatsoever, with a perfect pan.
He was in the process of towing it to our shop.
This morning I found "Duifie" (the new name for the grey Beetle) in the shop
[

It is amazing what a pressure washer in the right hands can do.
With this 1600 S outside

This one is a bit rough, but all the glass is there and the dash is in fairly good condition and all the seats are there as well as the original "leather" covered steering wheel and, best of all, the pan is perfect
It has some scars from a previous rough life, but it has no structural rust. This is the beauty of storage in a hot, dry climate.
After a meeting with the same pressure washer, it came out quite respectably.

(No, that is not a racing number in the window - we suspect it was a lot number from an auction, many, many years ago)

Now this is what I call a woman's day long weekend well spent.
