Superfinishing

Jake Raby uses a process called Superfinishing-it polishes all the internal parts to a very high luster that reduces friction
Can this be done at home?Do you use some kind of grit to blast the parts with?
Or, do you use autosol and steelwool do get this result?
Must say, it looks real cool...

Dont try this at home... its a realtively new chemical etching process which removes the high points of the bumps, without eating away at the low points.
If you try this at home, you will only weaken your parts and possibly lead to early failures
BTW, its FN expensive

Prolong / duralube and PS23 (Proudly SA) distributed by one of the "quick" exhaust places.
Surely which ever one you choose would be MUCCHHH cheaper and probably achieve the same end result.... i.e Motor isn't going to last forever... And it'd usually human negligence/error!! Me go for SS23 support local and i think it's trhe better of the 3 (there is evidence of this somewhere i think)

Pine's DUH ACVWSA Question no 145763267:
HOW DO YOU SEE (AND APPRECIATE) IT IN THE INSIDE OF YOUR ENGINE?

its so smooth to help shed the oil from the parts. Less weight on your parts because the oil isnt clinging to it. Aslo smoother for a lower Friction co-efficient.
As for Prolong... still looking for legit tests

Maybe while you're driving along you break out in song : "...I've got a shiny BLAH blah blah... DOO DAA.. Doo Daa..." The people parked at the robot next to you ... confused.

Once had an Oettinger crankshaft polished at Macdonalds engineering when i was still living in Jhb. They said it was very hard material, very difficult to polish.Actually i had a 82 mm Oettinger from the 2.5 wasserboxer, didnt like the idea of that much clearancing and weakening in a type 1 casing, so exchanged it for a 76.4 Oettinger at the place in Kemptonpark that used to specialise in wasserboxers at the time. They had plenty of oettinger cranks they took out of clients engines when they rebuilt it.Wonder if it ended up overseas.
Asked the main mechanic what the weak points of wasserboxers are.
Apparrently rusted head studs, head problems, waterleakage at heads and elsewhere, and conrods that snap for no apparent reason. They threw all used conrods in the dustbin and replaced them with brand new ones, was his answer.

i think that there is potential for Superfinishing in Sa, must do some research on the internet to see exactly how it's done...
