Fiat 500 Cut away
Has any one seen one of those Fiat 500 cut away working chassis and drive train models in SA. I think they had a similar one on American pickers but that one was a complete car if I remember correctly.
My understanding is they had them at dealerships and use to train the new owner how the car worked way back when there where not to many Italian mechanics around but I stand to be corrected.

Re: Fiat 500 Cut away
I don't know about Fiat 500, but Volkswagen built a number of cutaway Beetles, buses and engines over the years. VWSA also has a cutaway new Beetle on display, and they also had a cutaway Beetle engine..

Cutaway Beetle chassis & engine at the James Hall Museum, Jhb - probably used for training purposes?

No fan belt?
I suppose several parts on the chassis (obviously all NOS) got feet through the years...

Re: Fiat 500 Cut away
If you look carefully, the left side of the front suspension tubes are cut open, so perhaps it wasn't possible to clamp the steering box on the LH side?64 Notchback wrote:Correct
But like I said it may have been done to show LHD and RHD versions

Re: Fiat 500 Cut away
Interesting stuff.
The reasone I asked was I went to look at a vehicle in Alberton and the guy said I must follow him and in a old workshop at the back of his garge he showed me one of the Fiat cut aways it was fully operational and very clean.
He said when he retired the boss said is there any thing you want as we never got you anything for your retirement and he said he wants the Fiat.At the time it was just pushed in a corner and the boss said what are you going to do with that old thing,so he took it home spent a few months cleaning it and got it running again, very impressive I must say.
