Photos of my 51 Split Beetle metal work (Pic Heavy)
Here are some pics of the metal work done on my 1951 LHD split. The car left the factory on 31 October 1951. Spots of the L90 Sand colour was visible in some patches underneath new paint of later years. Because it was an import the VW Museum in Germany could confirm the Sand colour on the certificate, not like with the cars assembled in Uitenhage.
The amount cracks on the body showed that the car was driven a lot on gravel roads.
Note the roof:

Thanks Tony.Tony Z wrote:Amazing.... really great work. She's definitely in good hands now!
Peter that is doing my metal work is deaf-mute but are very good with his hands. He has been doing this since his school days. He is 66 now, was retired and have many properties he rents out, so no need for him to work. He only does it because he enjoys it. I do push the body work while he is still in good health.
Thanks Jacques. The Klassic Fab panels does make life a lot easier. Gerson's split floor pans are period correct. The first ones I got from Wolfburg West were not right. They do say it is for splits but the pattern at the rear is wrong.splitbusahollic wrote:Nice Job Jaco !! great to see those Green panels fitting so snug !!
Funny that I buy panels from three suppliers. Not one of them sells what the other does. One thing in common, if you pay in SA Rand none of them come cheap

Nice work there buddy.
looks as if you catching up to me, and doing a mighty fine job.
Mine is getting to the final sanding stage, can not wait to see her in colour.
Looks as if you going back to original colour, will look great back in Sand colour.
Looking at the hidden paint when i did mine, it too looked to be Sand, But will be making her Azure blue.
Please keep posting, always excited to see the progress you making.

Wow Jaco, excellent work in progress there. I remember you telling me about the way this Pieter was working on the roof, when we were in Parys.
Excellent thread, story and pics man
Cant wait to see the end result of this one (so that you can get cracking on that ambulance )

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Re: Photos of my 51 Split Beetle metal work (Pic Heavy)
Thanks for the nice words.
Herman, if you have second thoughts on the Azure blue, maybe go for Chestnut Brown.
I tried it on the Zwitter but there is no way I could paint that colour.
The first pics panels come from Wolfparts in Sweden
https://m.facebook.com/Wolfparts-205100569516228/
Mika Virtanen supply the smaller pannels in the second pic. He is very helpfull with advice, knows the old beetles and small differences from year to year very well.

Then there is a guy in PE that sells some green panels.
