T3 Engine conversion - advice please?!

Post by Lyle_VWvan »

Hi Everyone,

My grandfather has a beautiful T3 Kombi that has only done 96000km's on it's original 1.9 water cooled engine. Unfortunately this engine has been problematic for some time now so the time has come to replace the engine. The advice I am seeking is whether it is best to consider the 1.8 Jetta engine or the newer 2.0 polo engine? Secondly, are there any recommendations for a mechanic either in Port Elizabeth or on the Garden Route that can do this conversion for us?

The Kombi has been converted to a camper and we intend keeping her for many more years so it would be great to get her fit and into healthy shape to take on loads more roadtrips! :-)

Warm regards,
Lyle

Hi Lyle.

This would surely be a shame to modify a lovely preserved bus?

Why not rather have the original motor done over properly.

You can contact Andreno motors in Villiersdorp for rebuilds on the WBX motors.

Agree. That is not a lot of km's. Try and preserve but if you really have to do the conversion
