HURLEY, MS (WLOX) - The Mississippi Highway Patrol has identified the Texas couple killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday in Hurley. MHP spokesman Chase Elkins said Norris Wayne Burrow, 76, and Janie Kennedy Burrow, 79, died in the wreck.

Witnesses at the scene told us the Burrows were part of a large group of people heading to Cruisin’ the Coast from Texas. A friend of the Burrows said they are members of the Piston Heads Car Club.

Elkins said the deadly crash happened near East Central High School on Hwy. 614 when a car pulled out in front of the purple 1973 Volkswagen buggy occupied by the Burrows. The Volkswagen crashed into the driver’s side of the car.

Elkins said the driver of the car was taken to Singing River Hospital with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
This accident has resulted in quite a big reaction by members of the Manx Buggy Club, and the consensus is that they might have survived, had they worn safety belts. It appears that the buggy wasn't fitted with belts. In a country where vehicle safety is a huge issue, you can only imagine the statements made on social media. Nonetheless, I can totally associate with this comment by Manx Club member Carmine Colizziano, it kinda makes one think, doesn't it?
I am betting that if they hadn't passed in the accident...they would be likely to either rebuild the buggy if possible or get another one. I have found that being a buggy enthusiast isn't just a hobby in most cases. Its a lifestyle. People who are passionate about these little fiberglass fun machines are a different breed of auto enthusiast. I love my buggy, and the people who are in my Manx club Facebook page are some of the nicest people I've ever encountered on the net. I am very grateful to Bruce and Winnie for creating these cars, and I pray for the safety of anyone riding in one. Making comments that they should be outlawed angers me. This country is so concerned about the dangers of everything. News flash....accidents happen. You can't predict them. People are killed in Cadillacs, but no one is about to outlaw the Escalade. I am saddened by the loss of these lives. May God bless and be with them and their families. May God protect all buggy enthusiasts as we take pride in these machines that spread so much joy, and drive here and there.
