With the inavailability/Price of original emblems for Karmann Ghias, the previous owner of my car resorted to fitting replica emblems to the side of the front fenders, but not in the correct position. It bothered me when I bought the car and I decided to move them down to the correct position. The fake parts unfortunately does not come with clips or screws and was stuck to the body with what looks like the black rubbery double sided tape.
I tried fitting them again using similar tape, but they keep on falling off and with the price of getting the not-so-cheap replicas imported I cannot take the risk of loosing them while driving.
Any ideas on what I can use to properly fit them other than drilling holes through them?
Use some sika-flex
its a rubber glue that doesnt come off - you do have to scuff the paint first.
I am pretty sure I have seen it at builders, if not, you'll find it at an engineering wholesaler.
they have quite a few products, you;ll need the generic one - if its the black rubber glue then you should be on the right track.
Just make sure to mask off the areas that you dont want it on - you wont get it off easily if you accidentally touch a spot.
I dont know anything about industrial tapes. Maybe you can try Wurth?
Drivecam supply me 3M double sided tape to stick the cameras on the windscreens. With that it wont come of. Will post a pic of the tape, maybe you can find it at builders or I can give you some.
Yes the 3M VHB double coated tape would be best to use. I dont think builders stock it as its a premium product but some specialized automotive paint shops and 3M automotive distributors should have stock.
