I have been looking around the net to see what's available in the CC space for my beetle. What I have found is that there are really only 2 options: EMPI and CB-Performance (respective mages below).

The EMPI one looks like it might bend if you look at it funny, but I am not sure I like the CB one if it's going to pull down on the suspension and push it towards positive camber. I suppose that lowering the back a click more may be a solution to that?

Thoughts? Are there others? Maybe a DIY option?

Don't use the EMPI one, it falls off rather easily. I think tony has experience with the CB one. Much better.

We've run a Flat Four Racing (Dave Rowley) one on one of our bugs for probably over a decade now. No issues to report.

I'm not sure whether he still manufactures them though.

I do a upgrade 1 same as the CB 1 and I call it a Squat bar

I’ve got one of the original EMPI ones, the good ones. They later changed the design to make manufacturing easier and cheaper, that’s the one you posted.
Flat four no longer makes his, easier to supply EMPI

Boet bugger,.... not that I would know difference,.........where would you pitch the price for it?
With current build it might be "beneficial" to fit something of this nature!....... lifting it's leg and wanting to "mark" lamp posts!,..at speed could be detrimental to a person's health !

The above is the intended result,......."plastic" of course!!

Thanks for the advice all. It looks like the CB version would be the one to go with, but that exchange rate gives me the heebie geebies!!! Current shipping is $255 on a $70 part. Maybe worth finding a scrap leaf spring and having some parts made up...

I must say that its a pity that the original EMPI style no longer exists. I really think that carrying the load through the forks is better than through the gearbox housing... especially if you have strapped it down and tightened it up (even at the cost of a little more cabin noise).

The old Toppies used to strap the back axle when racing with canvas straps,

(was a bit of a wind-gat when young, did it to my Fastback way back then)

this makes the bounce up rather sudden but not as if it was end of shock.

Sure you will be able to get powerful bungy cord or strap and have the cable guys fit an eyelet to the end to fit into the shock mount.

(eyelet then down around side shaft and back up with a 2nd eyelet.)

I would put it between mount and shock to prevent too much tension on bolts.

This would give you more stability then the camber straps, and stop the car rolling over.

Herman those are just suspension limiting straps mostly used on track racing

Yes it similar to leave springs
But I make it specific wider and thicker than original and with the option of a 2and short blade inside for more tension

The blade with 2 side brackets R1500 and that is actually very close to cost to manufacture

By giving more tension you lift the suspension slight aswell

It is very similar to coil over shocks
But just much cheaper

Boet Bugger,..does you "blade" also pivot from the bottom of g-box ?

Herman,...now that you mention the strap,........my late dad was a keen fisherman,.......in the good old days when you could go down the beach for kilometers,....to get to the "pits" for the BIg fish,....stayed overnight and all that goes with it.
To the point .....he made some strap from shockpost to keep the backend from chucking everything out the buggy when. 'Unseen, dunes are crossed!
I did some flattrack running,......on salt......absolutely without his knowledge!,....let alone permission!.....those straps did the trick !

You right, All the years that I want to see Beetle compete, never saw one roll with straps on.

Yes these other fangled systems where available, but all used straps.

As I mentioned yes track use for limiting suspension
Eg the back or fro t suspension dont pull out to far

Your version does not pivot ,....but is/seem to be bolted to the bottom studs of the G-box,......the "tension" created way instead of pivoting around a bolt as per EMPI version,.........would you say I am neurotic,....or just plain stupid .

You mention,......."giving more tension" can lift the suspension,.......how would you do that,........like the idea, but cannot picture it,...unless you add another blade ?,.....therfore increasing tension by wanting to pull out of the g-box studs

My kits are same as your initial CB pic

Side mountings bolt on bottom transmission studs you need to fit
And joined with a 8mm plate with a center hole
Right under the oil drain plug

The blade fastened with 1 M10 bult

The side straps you measure over the axle tube and back to get a reference to make the length
(you will see 1 is made up with conveyor belt and other with chain)
The chain easier to shorten and put more tension on the axle tubes this will slight lift the bug as the strap or chain is pulling down on the Axle tubes.

So by shortening the strap you pulling down on axle tube as Blade is center mounted
