VWSA/SAMAD paint codes - 1966

As mentioned in another post - Colours on 1966 and earlier cars are slightly more difficult to identify and match with the relevant codes. Two that seemed to be constant was "F" for White Sand and "R" for red.

Pictured here is a 1966 Beetle painted in "Lobito Blue" and had a "S" stamped on the VIN plate. The same colour and code was also used in 1965, but was named "Strato Blue" which probably explains where the "S" originally came from. All cars painted "S" also had blue interiors as standard, except for certain Kombi models which had grey as an option. Not sure if the "S" code was used on earlier cars as well.
