Hi Mark
What is the ID of the bush where the gudgeon pin goes through? You get 2 different 1700 rods that utilize different pistons.

NO IDEA SEAN; I'LL HAVE TO MEASURE.
I ASSUME FROM YOUR QUESTION THAT THIS IS INDEED A 1700 CONROD THOUGH......
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN THE PISTONS AND WHY?

That appears to be a 1700, but it’s only based on a picture. Measure it to know properly.

If you read the above explanation then you have the tall balancing pad (Square thing on top)
So you have the 1700 con rod
The 1800 has a small bump balancing pad on top, as per photo, which you have not got.

I'M FAIRLY SURE MINE IS A 1700 BUT THE ENGINE/BITS WAS/WERE SOLD TO ME AS AN 1800, HENCE THE UNCERTAINTY.
I DO REALISE THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW TOO MUCH ABOUT THESE THINGS.

As most books will only give you a guide, you will have to measure and measure and measure to make sure you have the right collection of parts to fit into one engine.
As so may hodgepodge motor's are out there with a mix and match parts list, you can not be sure what you have without measuring.
Good luck old boy.
