Advice on Coil or Condenser
Hi All
I have a poorly running beetle engine.
Points and spark gaps all fine.
New distributor cap and leads.
Rebuilt my carb to see if that's it but no go.
Car splutters and lots of fuel smoke so am suspecting either the coil or Condenser.
Am I on track?
Car was standing for the last 2 months as I didn't get time to run her.
Thanks

Re: Advice on Coil or Condenser
If everything checks out fine, then its more than likley the condensor, even though the coil is a possibility.

Re: Advice on Coil or Condenser
Yes, its the ignition system that I use and have been selling for about 8 years now
My first ever installed unit is still running without fault and I've never had one customer report a failure
2110cc T1 engine, now sporting about 135hp
how to install it

Re: Advice on Coil or Condenser
Black fuel smoke?
Could it be over fueling? Stuck choke or something?

Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Re: Advice on Coil or Condenser
Rebuilt carb. Put new condenser but still spluttering.
May have to look at the carby again.

Did you set valve clearances?

Yes, fully compatible with any points based distributor.Haans wrote: Wed Sep 06, 2023 12:48 pm Not to highjack this,....Tony take it this "G-tech" system plugs in ,....like your video....even engines more than 4 cylinders ? Ie via your relevant distb.

I've got a few running on V8's and 6cyl Mercs, as well as a few early flat 6 911's
It plugs right in, but if the condensor is faulty, the system wont work properly, in this case you just have to remove the condensor.

Re: Advice on Coil or Condenser
Turns out that two of my sparks have hectic resistance between pin and input and two have a slight path to the ground.
Should have started there.
Also found the needle and seat from the kit was way too short and overfilled the float.
Put the original back but I am not sure if that one is set correctly as far as float level.
When I blow slightly down the tube to the float bowl it forces fuel past the gasket into the throat of the carb.
Is there a standard level the fuel should sit at when you take the top off ?

Re: Advice on Coil or Condenser
Pin 1 on Bosch coil equals negative on Huco. Positive same as 15 on Bosch. Clean the Bosch coil and try again.
Carb fuel level around 19.5mm down from mating surface.
