SCAT Urethane tranny mounts

Post by Blitzkrieg »

Greetings all

I would like to use the SCAT mounts, but need the following questions answered:

1. The rear tranny mount; Would the Beetle one work in the Type III? The Volkspares dude reckons that the Type III mount is different from the Beetle one, but the Urethane ones could be modified to fit...

2. What is the quality of the SCAT parts like?

3. Are there any local stockists?I have a plan to import them for around R300-00, failing which, I have the option to buy INSOFORM ones from a fellow forum member

This is for a Fastback that is going to have a mild Type 4 engine. Are there any other worthwhile modifications that I could do?

Just be aware that the urethane mounts transmit a lot of engine noise to the car interior.

Modern soundproofing takes care of that, from what I have been told...

The Urethane mounts are strong and hard and will last you a long time compared to the stock mounts. But they DO transfer a lot of Vibration to the car. No way to soundproof that. I used to put them in my Bugs untill they invented the removable face plates for the car stereos. When you use the Urethane mounts with a proformance motor the face plates pop off all the time from the vibration.... Now I just use the rubber ones for on road applications.

I can't wait to give the BMW wankers a go

At a later date, after the Fastback is properly sorted and running, I would like to add some boost, that's when I will add the Kafer Cup Bar and solid tranny mounts :?

Like I said, that will be in the distant future, after the car is sorted 100%

For now, I am getting SCAT or INSOFORM mounts, this should be sufficient :D
