411 steering column and others :(

Post by Blitzkrieg »

Volks....This is blitz looking for help again

Problem 1:-

I can get a steering column, with a good ignition, wiper and indicator switches from a 411. The assembly is in good condition, just needs some painting.

My question is - Will this column bolt into a Type 3?Or would it require some modification first? It's still in the car, so before I commit some serious blood, sweat and tears to yank it out of the car, I need to know if it will fit :zhelp:

Problem 2:-

Where is the front trunk release on a 411? I've checked under the dash on the LHS,RHS etc but nothing?!What am I looking for?Something similar to a type 3's release knob and cable maybe? Pine maybe you can help??

Front trunk release for the 411 is inside the cubby hole to the right, a lever thats gets pushed downward to open the trunk. If the (cardboard) cubby hole interior is gone, the lever might be gone as well. Get the release cable, grip it with a set of pliers and give it a sharp pull. You will hear a 'clunk' sound, and the trunk will be lifted about 2cms. Press the lever at the front of the trunk, just above the VW badge (on a 411) and just below the VW badge (on a 412) to open the trunk. It has a safety catch to prevent the bonnet from opening over the windscreen while the car is moving. The lever on the driver side wheel well, just below the dash, opens the petrol flap.

I was thinking of using a crowbar to pry the bonnet open if I can't open with the method that Pine suggested
