1983 SA GTi
This was a lovely and very stylish car 25 years ago, I think if I had to choose between a brand new Citi and a mint '83 GTi, I won't take the Citi

Re: 1983 SA GTi
This still is a lovely and very stylish car
And the build quality is way better than the new Citis that are being made
Funny that VWSA called it a GTi, whereas the rest of the world called it a GTI

Re: 1983 SA GTi
Because in SA we weren't used to fuel injection at the time. SA GTi's also didn't have the red trim around the grill, like the overseas cousin

I regard that book as the VW Bible, the author Simon Glen sent me a signed copy a few years ago

And we never ever had the BBS front spoiler on the GTI models, but it was used on the Caddy Sport Bakkies (like Dam mentioned earlier on).Pine wrote:Because in SA we weren't used to fuel injection at the time. SA GTi's also didn't have the red trim around the grill, like the overseas cousin

Re: 1983 SA GTi
I don't think I ever found another car that has the exitement to drive like the Gti had.One wheel in the air around a corner, and it gave most performance cars a goo lesson in speed in it's day.

Re: 1983 SA GTi
The Mk1 was the original 'pocket rocket' - back in the early 80's a lot of people moaned about VW daring to give such a small car a 'GT' name, but the legend lives on

I've got one of these puppies! A pocket rocket of note!
They're becoming more valuble now...and harder to find.
