I have a bus......a vrot bus.....

Post by JohnHoffe »

...that I want to restore.

I have sourced all the replacement body panels from Wolfsburg West, including the following:
Complete floor (Front and Cargo)
Rocker panels LH & RH (Inner & Outer)
Cross beams (Floor)
Dog leg

Since the rear suspension was butchered when I got the bus, I opted for a Bay rear suspension, already fitted. I have a modified split front suspension to take the Bay spares.

I am desperate for a restorer in the JHB / PTA area to do the body work and get the bus into primer. I want to trail assemble it before final painting.

Any suggestions? Please?

Hi John

What a huge project.

A true ressurection.

Had a tough time finding a good panelbeater for mine. Ended up taking it to Jan from Centurion Lada. He takes quite long but I have the time and the price is reasonable.

He got the spares for me way cheaper than I could source as well.

All the Best.

Can you please let me know how you modified the front suspension. I have a bay suspension for my fleetline but dont want to replace the complete one.

Thanx

Vrot is a understatement. I thought one of our ghia's was bad, but this puts things in a whole new perspective! Good luck!

Well I helped off-loading it from the trailer at Bugger's place, there still a LOT of metal, and it is DAMN heavy!

The Fleetline was at Jan for 7 months. The agreement was he would take 4 months with a blank cheque. I paid him double the deposit he asked for.

What did I get back? What you see in the pics. Without my deposit. I refuse to stoop to his level to sue him for my money back.

That's one big challenge.....I don't know anyone in JHG but I would be really worried about all the work required in respect of making sure the body stays straight whilst replacing all the bits. Make sure you don't go for too cheap a restorer.....anyway would you consider a restorer in CT?

Gazzapen:

I found a simple mod to make the Bay ball joint spares fit on a Split H-beam. I live 5 minutes from your 'hood. PM me then you come around for a beer and I'll show you the mod.

John, Is this a fleetline? Is it worth all the work?
