Re: Blitzkrieg's Fastback
I LOVE IT!!
I was expecting you to engrave a shift pattern or something like, but this simply blows me away!!!
After seeing this, it's high time I get off my ass and get this beast to live.
Thanks again BAB. I'm working on your wishlist
Oh, and if anyone is offended by that symbol, PM me and I'll explain to you

B.A.B. , that is some beautiful work you did right there!
Love the shifter, looks like two lightning bolts!
How about one with the maltese cross on it, or some of these:

Re: Blitzkrieg's Fastback
Got quite a bit of work done this weekend
-Cleaned out the fresh-air boxes that I took from a donor Variant. Simply unbelievable at the amount of crud that was in there
. I also just painted the top part with some matt black paint and a brush
- Cut off the bracket from a late Beetle steering column tube and started trimming the bottom of the tube so that it fits a Type 3. I've sent the bracket and 'tube to be welded up properly - wouldn't want to have that come loose! I'm using the late Beetle style wiper and indicator switches, so had to modify the column tube etc so that everything fits correctly.
- Cleaned and tested a wiper motor. Have a few Type 3 ones lying around, used the best of the lot.
- Pulled the motor out again. I'd like to have it bench started before it goes into the car. The one cylinder head is off, there is a bit of minor rust in one bore
. Considering what I paid for the motor, I'm not really complaining as it has plenty parts that would have cost more to source and buy (exhaust branch, 411/412 heat exchangers, flywheel that takes Beetle clutch etc). Now I must just install the release bearing adapter properly this time around and we are set.
Sadly I didn't take any pictures this weekend
Now the reassembly of the underside of the dash can start. Once this is done, it can finally be sent for the wring. Which is the main thing that is holding back progress.Hmmmmm...
I've also organised a heater for the garage, so that I can work in there in the evenings. It's no fun working in a freezing cold garage, you fingers stiffen and after a while it gets quite painful!!
