Dual IDF's???

where would one find dual idf's. i dont know much and i admit it. so please would someone help me. I heard that dual idf's would make nice power on the motor.
from what i can gather its a downdraft carb system. but what do i need. eg manifold and what not. and where can i find them?

I found this set of Dellorto 36DRLA's at the Modderfontein swop meet. To the best of my knowledge they are the same as IDF's. The manifolds and linkages were another R2K, and I still have to get the filters. Haven't put them on the buggy engine yet..

o ok. and would you be willing to sell those? So what i gather is that these things are hard to find?

Sorry, not for sale - but then again I found them by pure accident, so try to be at the next Modderfontein Swop Meet (see ACVWSA events calendar), who knows maybe get lucky as well.

As they were fitted to Alfa's, try to make contact with the Alfa Club, perhaps they can help too?

i found small carb from jozi. he said they came of a beetle s. still waiting for the pictures. i will post them. would you guys be able to tell me if these are the improve my power ones i want? or if their just a waist of time.

Last year I installed a set of twin Weber 36 IDF's to my standard 2.0L type 4 motor. The set I purchased were from Dave Rowly, which consisted of the two reconditioned Webers, new linkage kit and the two airfilters. The total cost was about R4400 when you add everything together.

I really feel it was money well spent, it did give a fair bit more power, especially low down and with no flat spots or hesitation. Fuel consumption is fantastic as well, up to the George motor show this year at a speed of about 110km/h I got 8.5 km/l.

These are better than the IDFs because these give you a vacuum signal so you don't need to go to the dreaded (by some) 009. It allows you to keep running a vacuum-and-centrifugal advance dizzie which is better than only centrifugal. Especially in a light car like a buggy where any slight hoes-poep-of-skinder is translated into a huge jerk or flat spot.

My 36 IDFs have a vacuum connection on the left hand carb and I'm using the standard dissy. My bus also runs like swiss watch and I get up to 9.5km/l on the highway! :hangloose:
The only substitute for cubic inches are more cubic inches.

Yes, mine also have vacuum connections, same as the four on the barrels of the DLRAs in Pine's pics (these are for balancing the carbs, I was told, they are not really for a vacuum signal for a dizzie, too far from the butterfly valve, he said). But mine do not have the one on the last pic right by the stamp. That's the one you want. I believe there are some IDFs that do have that one, and I know there is a procedure by which one can be machined into an IDF. The engine I took out of the bus has 2 DLRAs and I'm going to use that set up in the Mini-T. The bus now has the 2276cc 2x44 IDFs and 009 dizzie. The weight of the bus negates any flat spot there might have been. Mind you, my buggy runs with a 1914cc 2x 36 IDF's and a 009 and there's no flat spot there either.

DRLA's flow better for the equivalent size as well but their spares are harder to come by.

The only flat spot I have is the one on top of the seatcovers head for resting my beer on... :twisted: :drunks: :flash:
