Steering Wheel Resto, My Dremel and I...UPDATES

Decided to repair and restore a spare wheel I have for the bug.

1. Routed out all old cracks using Dremel with carving/engraving bits.
2. Filled using Pratley Liquid Epoxy.
3. Left overnight to harden, no viagra's guys.
4. Filed some akward areas using hand files.
5. Sanded larger areas using Dremel with sanding circles.
6. Smoothed nicely and then primered using white primer, I reckon it will show the ivory/cream color better.
7. Now all I need is somebody to spray the wheel...

Is that rattle can primer? No reason why you shouldn't spray it yourself.

Thanks Barry, yeah it is rattle can. Cost like R38. I thought about it. You reckon I should just spray it myself? Maybe I should give it a try. I can always send away for spraying if I dont like it. Somebody quoted me like R300 to spray it.

Like you said, spray it yourself and then decide if it looks good.

I used 2K and that worked.
Used piece of poly cop pipe upright in a vice with a long roof(10cm) screw about 5 - 10 cm from top.
Put steering wheel in so that it can turn freely and spray the wheel top and bottom.

In order to get the paint to stick I had to sand and prepare the wheel nicely and remove the shiny layer. Once flatted nicely you can primer and if the primer sets nicely shouldnt be a problem for paint to stick.....

LL, sure you have a compressor and spray gun? What color 2K did you use as I am trying to get this to the Ivory/Creme style color. Also do you have pics of the setup with the vice?? Sounds easy but always nice to see a pic...
