Re: Beetle Popouts
Today we decided to install the popouts to have them fitted for Sunday's do at the Mint.
First we removed the old glass (anybody needing rear glass with new rubbers?)

Then we cleaned the work area prior to fitting the pinch welt

We cut the pinch welt to leave enough clearance for the pivot plate

The pivot plate was attached using the existing holes in the window frame ( I used shortened self tapping screws for this)

We then attached the popout to the hinge plate and mounted the latch on the corresponding holes in the rear panel and Voila! - Petrus has popouts

Even though its bitterly cold, I'll test their functionality on my way home tonight.
If anybody have some spare hinge plate covers lying around, I'll gladly take them off your hands.

Re: Beetle Popouts
Ventilation is greatly improved.
And I think the shiny side trim looks better than the previous black window rubbers.

Re: Beetle Popouts
Hi where did you get this universal rubbers? thats better tha pro - auto rubber? do you have a phone nr?jmvv wrote:The original rubber was profiled to curve slightly out.
The new rubber is a universal fit, but the fit in the channel is very good ( better than the universal stuff from Pro-Auto Rubber)
As far as fitting it; I am in uncharted waters, but I'll sort it out. Will keep you posted though.
If you need popouts, I can visit the boneyard and see if I can find you a pair.

Re: Beetle Popouts
Hi Guys
Looking for a beetle graveyard or a shop with very good prices.
i have a 1976 beetle 1500cc as my first car and am restoring it little by little as i dont have alot of cash at the moment.
I stay in cape town but will be in vereeniging/centurion in Joburg from next week tuesday for 2 weeks so any places near there will also be helpful.
can anyone help me with a service manual or perhaps a simple yet useful wiring diagram as the electricals seem kinda screwed.
also im having trouble getting the beetle to idle correctly, is either too high or too low
Thanks please get back to me
