This is not a record but I took my 1957 Oval Beetle to 65 MPH this morning. Reached 70 at one stage but that was it. This car is stock standard, the engine has never been out of the car, and have done 83300 miles since new.

At that speed with those skinny tyres it is a big risk. But so much fun and the adrenalin rush!!! You can't beat it in a modern car. :D :D

I agree there is just that something with an "old" beetle. No power steering, ABS and so on. :)

Quiet right,...its like running through a minefield with one eye partially blind, its second only to war games with live ammo........ just joking  ,...I love driving my bus,...but its a bit nerve wrecking without the before mentioned ABS and what not.If youre car cant stop aswell as the car infront of you then you start playing with peoples lives......huge following distances for me and no stupid chances either.

Im actually a little para when driving it in build up areas.Open road in the day time is most relaxing for me,..no need to suddenly stop and dodge retarded motorists, everyone is doing more or less the same speed,...much better. :hangloose:

Nice to see the VW's are still doing it like new 8) Not a lot of cars from that era still running and running that good! Had my beetle to the other side of the needle also but don't make a habit of doing it  I have to agree it's much more fun in the older cars . . .

As for brakes I believe when upgrading things brakes should be one of the first things to be done.
