What model do you have?: vw t2a deluxe kombi

timing for FCR160*** engine code

hi. just bought a accuspark electronic distributor for my bus (1970 t2a) and will have to re-set the timing, problem is, here in england theres nothing in the haynes workshop manual for this code only the following
"ad series engine to number 290 640 = 5 degree's atdc"
"ad series engines from number 290 641 = 7and a half degree's btdc"
"ae series engines 5 degree's atdc"
ive had a look on here and google for any info on fcr code but no luck.
the engine in it is a 1.6 twin port.
has anybody on here got any ideas what the setting should be ?.

The timing is determined not by the engine number, but by the distributor you are using. If your new dizzy doesn't come with any instructions re timing, then set timing so that it is no more than 29deg BTDC at full advance.

SFCR prefix signifies an engine assembled in South Africa on a Mexican or Brazilian universal case.

The timing is determined not by the engine number, but by the distributor you are using. If your new dizzy doesn't come with any instructions re timing, then set timing so that it is no more than 29deg BTDC at full advance.

do not leave your ignition on if the engine is not running - you will burn out your ignition
always carry a spare (stock) points and condenser or a spare accuspark module in case you burn yours out
these are fantastic while they work, but be warned, they burn out for no reason at all. Trust me, I have done about 8000km with them, first one lasted 4500 km. Last 3 lasted about 80km. One of them didnt even last long enough to start the engine.

cheers tony z, lucky you told me not something i would have thought about. i really do hope they dont burnout as i'm getting a bit sick of having to phone up the aa all the time to come and pick me up every time i use my bus.
