Re: My Beetle
Hello ADZ.
What happens if your battery is flat or even worse if the ciruit fails to those switches? How do you open the doors?

Re: My Beetle
I've never seen one of these before. Moulded? Am I corrrect in understanding that this is a beetle that has been encased in fg using a mould? Are all the bits encased? Why not just make moulded parts instead?

Re: My Beetle

ADZ I am almost positive that this car is not moulded in one piece like a full on moulded one piece front end for a drag or race beetle. If it was your entire car would be made from fibre glass (perish the thought

What happened here is that the fenders, if they are metal, were either welded onto the body, the seams filled, and then filled with body filler/putty. Same applies to the front fenders against the front apron, as well as at the rear apron. Also looks like the runner boards were joined to the fenders in the same manner. Please make sure nobody stands on them. ...

Having done these kind of custom tom-foolery to beetles about 20 years ago, I know that you will seldomly be locked out, even when the battery is low. The door will open 95% of the time, as if the correct solenoid is used, it only requires a fraction of the power you would normally think it would use to open the door. When the remote is depressed, the solenoid simply releases causing the electrical circuit to be interrupted. Good quality new rubber will always ensure that the door immediately pushes away from the door frame, allowing you to pull on the door handle to open it further...
My mate Ichraam who used to build these gadgets even had a silicone keypad which was adhered to his pop out window, just behind the door post, which could be used to key in a PIN to open the door in the event the remotes battery vrekked or the remote conked out. His volla could also be remotely started from inside his house... provided it was left in neutral. The bug also started with an encrypted credit card, so yes keyless entry and starting way way before the Mercs did it...

Aaahh! the good old days...
