Black dash on red paint looks VERY VERY NICE !
Thanks, just hope it turns out the way it looks in my mind...

The red paint, the black dash, the black clove box ( see old post), black ash tray (see old post), and black switch knobs, and black steering column (see old post).

The colour scheme will be Red, Black and white.

Hope it works......... :?

This being my 1000 post, may as well put it in my OWN thread. :D

Fitting the sound proofing into the Fastback,

Then will be fitting all the electrical components, and testing it, better not to have the upholstery in the car, during testing, Only have a SMALL fire extinguisher....

Then the engine, so that I may measure the max. hight for the stub manifolds, to be made. Want to be able to close the engine cover.

and once it is fully running, I will fit the upholstery, being WHITE, best be out of the oily overalls when that is done...

Will have to test drive it with a PDS. (PSD = Paint Drum Seat)

Well till next time,

Herman

PS;- Thanks guys for putting up with my lousy wit, and lack of knowledge.....

Well spent the day Fitting the sound proofing, ensuring its stuck down, else the carpets will slide, and look like :bn: with in a few days.

Connected the battery, and charger, then attached the wiring. Now I have to tell you that it would seem as it guys have adapted the wiring as the original switches broke down, Holes were drilled and toggle switches fitted, wires were cut all over and rerouted to the toggle switches.

Started by fitting the "NEW" steering column, which has a new Ignition lock switch, and a reworked Indicator/High beam switch. Then the Head lights went in, as well as all other lights through out the car. These were temporary wired with an earth, so as to make the wiring accessible during fault finding.

Also found that the hooter relay was something of the past, and refitted a new relay. Ran I missing wire inside the steering shaft to the steering box to make the hooter work.

Connected the wing lights back to the "over Night park Light system", someone had turned them into wing indicators.

Fitted door switches, and got the cabin light working.Even got the Trunk light up and going... :D

Shorted all the ignition wires, and marked them, as the type 3 wiring will not suit the type 4 engine, these have to be changed. Then fixed and tested all the warning lights on the dash. Dim Bright working fine, the light hooter is 100%, the sound hooter working as it must.

Must say the GOLF Mk 1 head lights makes the front end look like a $1 000 000., oh and then turned down the 75 mm dia, Reflectors down to 60 mm for the back reflector chrome housings, this I am happy with, as the old reflectors looked like :bn: and I was not going to put them back

NOW what's next, I hear you all ask........ :?

Well, the next will be the type 4 release bearing fitmint with my new made spigot shaft bush, (as per older post) to do this I have to change the Release bearing fork.

Then will be checking the clutch plate, and fitting the type 4 engine.

Photos to follow.....

Herman

Can you please elaborate a bit more on this please, as I was under the impression they were indicators. Assumptions....

No, we were going to ask, "Where are the pictures?"

The side (fender) lights, are there for "over night parking" in European narrow streets, When you switch OFF the car, switch OFF the lights, you then put the indicator either left, or right, depending which side is on the traffic side, and then that Fender light will light up, to warn traffic that you are parked there. This only uses a tenth of the power that your normal parks would use, and shows the maximum extent of your car.
This is why it is white to the front and red to the rear, should it have been an indicator, it would have been orange.

NOW what's next, I hear you all ask........ :?

Thank you....

The Type 4 engine is a lot heavier then the original type 3, so the ass will sit lower. Will only be dropping the front to level the car and will be fitting the wheels that are on the Beetle, as the beetle gets its own wheels back......

Did some work today, ..

1st I removed the old Release bearing fork, and old beer can, oh , sorry, someone made a aluminium bush by hammering in a section of ??? (beer can...???) then started making a new Brass bush for the fork.. :D

Image

Then I installed my Release bearing guide tube, that I made some time ago,

Image

With both seals, and fitted the new brass bush, for the correct fork.

Image

Installed the multi finger release bearing, now my type 3 is ready for the type 4 engine....

Image

But wait... Have to install the Peddles, and clutch cable, else it will be hard work....

Image

Now the "One man Engine putter in system", that I used to fit the engine, ( Should get help to do this, getting to old)

Image

Taa......Daa..... The engine is in, turned it to see if we cleared the flywheel correctly,

Image

Turning freely, clutch works, now the hard work to change it to Carbs.....

Need to remove the Fuel Injection, Make stub Manifolds, and fit the carbs....

Oh well, we will keep you informed....

Till next time

Deja vu - I did all of this for my fasty, from fitting one of those adapter sleeve things, to putting the engine in myself with a jack, bracket thing and a tyre. Good memories. I had some of the short manifolds, must check if I still have them

Looking very nice Herman.

Mmmm. That looks like an Andreno Motors engine with that turquoise paint.

Will the shorter type4 manifolds not work if they fitted in the 412LE? Do you plan to fit type 4 carburettors as well?

Why don't you want to keep the fuel injection? According to statistics it gave a 1700 motor 10kw more plus making it smoother, more efficient and helping with cold starting etc. Parts are available but unfortunately a bit expensive.

Thanks..

Yes, it is an Andreno motor, one of the few guys with a complete work shop as well as machine shop, Why.... do you not like his motors....???

They mite, but will be using the 2000Lt Kombi twin carbs, and still need to fit a pancake filter under lid.

If someone has the short 412 manifolds, Please let me know... then I can use/modify them......... :zhelp:

I have the full system, wire loom, relays, computer box, switches, the hole box & dice, But my motor is now a 2000Lt, and I am sure the 1700 FI will run the 2000Lt to lean, and kill the engine.
Not many guys can still set these units, and if it breaks, on the side of the road, I can not fix it......
So better it go, and I fit carbs..... :D

Herman, I have found one manifold, looking for the other. These are the ultra short ones as found on the type 4 station wagons, your type 3 lid will close after you fit these. Obviously you will need the correct airfilter too. Will keep you posted.
