Looks kind of sad in that photo........

Thanks, will be the family pride and joy from now on.....

So you also had a hand in this car, please tell more.......want to build up the History of it as much as I can.

Should there be more owners that you know of, please tell me, or PM me a list, the story book has some empty pages.

Thanks so long Pine.

As I mentioned earlier, I bought it on the spot late in 2005 after I went to go and look at it on a plot to the West of Bloemfontein (not sure of the exact location anymore) - didn't have it very long as I didn't have the time/finances for it and it was shortly before I moved to Gauteng. The car also did not have any papers at the time.

Image

The owner told me it belonged to his daughter who drove it from Kimberley to Bloem and back on weekends, and according to him, it was 'driven' to the spot where I found it. Yeah right, couldn't get the original engine started at all and it made some terrible noise (bearings) when the starter turned it. The 14 inch wheels on the bottom pic were from a Volvo, and was fitted with adapter plates - but they didn't really work on the rear as they were too wide. I even had them on the HW1 buggy for a while, before the car then went to André (69Bug) who fixed it up for his daughter, and then ended up at Gerhard where you got it.

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

That was Gerhard's 411 we used the day as it was the only car between us that had a tow bar  It is a near mint 1970 two-door coupe that we went to go and fetch in Riversdal December 2001 or 2002. Yes, the horse in the pic bit me on my shoulder as I was tieing the Fastback down to the trailer

This is the only Type 3 I've ever seen in South Africa that used to be factory black with a white interior.
The pic below is from the Volksieshop website, probably shortly before it went down to the EC

Herman, did you have to change your Front upper and lower ball joints? If you did, where did you get them from. My cheapest price so far is R315 each.

No, mine were not bad, just turned them 90deg. and filled with WB grease.

Also filled the steering box with Wynn's Oil additive, ( took for ever, because it is so thick, had to heat it with heat gun)

Now I have no problem with the front end, only standing up in the air because of the big type 4 in the back.

Will be getting some "spring over shock" s for the back, otherwise it will keep bottoming out when you go over a bump.

Also do not want to lift it with the torsion springs, else it will slam "TOP" after the bump.

The ride comfort is very important to me, as this is one of the things I love of the Fastback, and I want to maintain that comfort at all costs.

How is your Fastback coming along,???

Put the type 3 motor in on Friday. Type 4 motor giving to many hassles at the moment. Also still waiting for the Impi shroud.

Today we started to tackle the front end and we need 2 ball joints as there is no rubber on them. They are irrepairable.

I will see if my son has some pics. I know he took plenty while he was there.

I think he even removed the rear boot lid catch to put on his mates Notch. Just don't tell Ron.

When we left Es said something about the catch being thrown away with the rear side window trim.
