Look what Santa brought me for Christmas!

Image

He he he - the buggy had to sleep outside last night, and it looked like rain so I covered it in an old parachute. Wasn't neccessary anyway - not a single drop fell!

And then things go "tragically" wrong according to CNN and BBC... I just think he's stupid... fokken onnosel.

I must say thie first thing that popped into my mind was also, "now WTF did he get a parachute from?!?"

What's news, Adriaan? When will the big day be that your project is completed?
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Hi Dawie - slowly but surely - every day is closer to being finished than ever before. Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it!

UPDATE -

I've been playing around with an idea for a while - the black gauges looked too 'modern' for my liking so I searched high and low till I found 3 chromed bezels to put around them. Eventually found them, not perfect - but good enough after a polish and cleanup. This is the 'before' pic -

Image

...and this is the 'after' - after some struggling! But I'm happy :)

Image

The display on the (new) VDO speedo was 99999, so after hooking up the cable for the speedo for the first time a trip around the block was all that was needed for...

a fresh start!

:hangloose:

Image

Checked the speedo reading with the GPS and it is very close to being 100% accurate. It is not, however, the first time I've had a car with 00000 on the speedo

There was the Bay, somewhere on the N3 near Bedfordview on Mon Nov 03, 2008

...and the Khaki Cruiser on Tue Jan 26, 2010 on the N12 near Nelspruit

Who knows, maybe one day I'll see 00000 from the drivers seat of one of these, as I drive it off the showroom floor?

Hi Pine,

""""..and the Khaki Cruiser on Tue Jan 26, 2010 on the N12 near Nelspruit """"""

must be a type 3, LHD, but which one, how about some photos of it.

You do know I have LHD dash covers, should you need one.

Fitted the windscreen and wipers last week, and got the bikini top back today. Went to vdBrink this afternoon to have the rear 36mm axle nuts torqued, and on my way back had a chance to test the windscreen, wipers AND bikini top when a sudden cloudburst came from no-where

Image

Drove HW2 for the first time on the N1 today - clocked 110km/h between Malibongwe and William Nicol, but didn't want to go any faster as the traffic was a bit hectic, and the seat belts are not fastened yet... odometer already on 00078!

Thanks Greenbean!! :flash:

Currently visiting IMPI in Orkney for a few days, in the process of sorting out the papers of the buggy - drove through from Pretoria on Sunday, and HW2 ran perfectly! :hangloose:

Left Orkney yesterday via Bloemfontein for Vleesbaai - stopped at VolksieShop in Bloem with a loose steering box, sorted out quickly (thanks Gerhard :hangloose: )

Left Bloem just after 5, but got heavily delayed by several stop/go roadworks on the N1 :?

Awesome stuff, there is something very special about travelling on a quiet road in the Karoo at dawn and dusk - it must be an even better experience in an open top vehicle ?

Cool pics - thanks :hangloose:

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.
