Re: towing with a splitbus
Im sure it will tow that small van of yours without to much shit,.....the only way to test it for sure is to hitch it up,and take your set-up for a spin.

Re: towing with a splitbus
What does the caravan weigh? I doubt very much a bus has enough power to tow a big caravan, unless you like going at 40 kph

A friend of mine towed his 54 oval beetle with my 1600tp 57 sc. Bugger is towing a Beach Buggy to George with the same bus for a buddy of ours. Luckily we are leaving on Wed already, so we should be there in time for the show

Re: towing with a splitbus
The caravan will drastically slow a 1600 split bus, plus increasing the oil temp drastically. I loaded 11 people into my fleetline bus the other day and it made it incredibly slow; your caravan will add additional wind resistance too.
I towed my campervan this weekend with my Baywindow and it raised its oil temp near 40 degrees above my normal operating temp but it doesn’t tow too bad nevertheless.
I recon be prepared for 1st and 2nd gear up hills.

Re: towing with a splitbus
I think the caravan might aid windflow behind your bus and lower your busses drag co-effiecient,.....wont the bus pull weight easier than it carrys weight?

I don't know...you might be underestimating the power of your bus.

I never said he towed it

Re: towing with a splitbus
IIRC the maximum trailer weight for a split bus is 750kg (braked) and 450kg (unbraked).
That's not top say it would be prudent to tow 750kg with a split ...

Re: towing with a splitbus
Your caravan is more aerodynamically- efficient than most local ones. Do a test run and see how it does.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Some Inspiration for you Jacques.... even though its an Eriba Puck!
Only other thing that I can think of is braking. Great if your trailer has brakes, especially down hills and around sweeping downhill bends. Otherwise attemp it at slow speeds with caution.

Re: towing with a splitbus
shot Guys....gonna camp in the bus instead....will sort the caravan and do some short runs to Jbay etc first to check compatibility
and then attempt longer distances....we are traveling with the Jo'burg boys so don't wanna be the strop here

this guy does it.....but i don't know what's under the hood !
i only have a 1600 single port that goes quite well.
till next time then.
