Hi chaps.
So recently I managed to swop my Landy (old series 3) for a replica RSK 718...
Nice one is that I left the chaps house , and about 10k's from his house, the engine became vry noisy..
at the side of the road, i noticed a lovely oil puddle, and proceded to check oil.....EMPTY..
now his excuse of " a drop every now and then from the tappet cover" was in fact a worn crank seal...
so after the battle, of getting the car home, and replacing the seal, starting it and letting it idle, showed the same results....OIL everywhere.
So obvious, something with the main bearing spinning in the casing, fly wheel play etc....

Nice, he got me..... shafted, car with a :bn: engine.

Yesterday, I managed to secure a very rough beetle, but fitted with a Nissan 1400 engine in good running condition
So this is my next attempt, fitting all of this into the replica...
radiator will be mounted on top of the gearbox, and electric fans will be supplying the cooling with ducting...

So look out for this on the road soon :)

Congratulations on the new addition. Sorry you got conned on the engine.

For future reference, a critical check to do on all ACVW engines is to check crankshaft end float by pulling back and forth on the pulley. Maximum play is 0.006in. I've had engines with up to 5mm of end float that run sweetly except for massive oil leaks. Too much end float means it's rebuild time; the case has taken a beating and may be scrap.

Nice car, sorry to hear about the motor.

Were you flat towing it in the Bruma/ edenvale area last friday?

I bought it like that - I wish I had $$ to get a 2.0 AC engine, but money is even more scarce than a split bus these days

I am willing to swop my baja (as it is in the add nissan engine and all for a beetle engine that I can put into my spyder and drive off, so in other words a good reliable beetle engine...

Think I turned onto the freeway in the white split SC just in front of you and gave you the thumbs up. Flow of traffic and a heavy foot prevented me from sticking around more ;)
