You can try this place http://www.mckenzies.co.za/ Tel No 031 705 8516 or shawn(at)mckenzies.co.za. They look top notch but not sure if they do VW aircooled heads but give them a buzz

HR, they have the chamber filled with liquid (paraffin I hope) and thus you cannot see into the chamber - well thats what it looks like on my pc anyway

Yep, filled with paraffin to check for leaks in the seating. 3rd cylinder leaks through the exhaust valve....check earlier pics.
I am trying to find a decent engineering place to reseat the valves and guides. Can you believe it; non of the suppliers in Durban have. Ordered from joburg and will be here on thursday.

If I were you I would see if you can get the new type valve seats fitted, they are made to take Unleaded fuel
The seats are harder than the standard one's.

Terry, stock seats take unleaded fuel. A bone stock engine built in the 60's is ready for unleaded fuel. Aircooled VWs already have hardened seats.
The aircooled beetles do not suffer from the problems of other cars when it comes to valve seat recession due to running unleaded fuel.
Do a search, there is another post relating to the right fuel on this forum

Thanks for that Tony,Ron and Jill, I was thinking in terms of the engineering shops when they make up their own seats, some just fit the standard material type and not the hard one, please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes that is correct Terry, that is why some ac had problems with the ULP and the rest didnt. Thats why its important to find the Eng shops that undersands Metalergy. (F@#$ thats a big word for me)...

Shooo!

So do i get this correctly. They don't just grind a new ridge into the head where the valve goes?

HI EVERYONE.
AS CYNDI SAID......SHE'S AT HER COUSINS FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS. I WILL CONTINUE WORKING ON HER KOMBI AND DO MY BEST TO POST. (ALREADY BATTLING WITH ATTACHING PHOTO'S)
TODAY AFTER MUCH EFFORT I FINALLY MANAGED TO EXTRICATE THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY FROM THE SHAFT. EVEN AFTER USING LUBRICANT AND HEAT, I STILL HAD TO KNOCK THE BLAZERS OUT OF IT TO GET IT OFF. FORTUNATELY WE WERE GOING TO REPLACE IT ANYWAY.
I ALSO REMOVED THE PETROL TANK WHICH ALSO TURNED OUT TO BE QUITE A CHALLENGE.
CYNDI'S KOMBI SEEMS TO HAVE A SLIGHTLY MODIFIED ENGINE COMPARTMENT; PRESUMABLY DONE BY ONE OF THE PREVIOUS OWNERS.
I'M PREPARING THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FOR PAINTING WHILST EVERYTHING IS OUT OF THE WAY.

Hi Mark,

On the left side of the key board, three from the bottom, there's a key that says Caps Lock. Hit that once... just once...    :TIC:

That way we'll know you're not yelling at us. :?

On the other hand, maybe you should leave it, it works all right: Cyndi's voice, DAD'S VOICE.

HI RON AND GILL.

I HAVE THIS FROM ALL THE COMPUTER GEEKS.

UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE ALWAYS.......ALWAYS WRITTEN IN CAPS AND UNFORTUNATELY THAT ISN'T GOING TO CHANGE.
RATHER FOCUS ON THE CONTENT; THAT'S WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT.
THANKS FOR THE ADVICE THOUGH. THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS WE USE THE FORUM.
HOPEFULLY IF WE DON'T ALWAYS TAKE THE ADVICE WE WON'T BE OUSTED.

THANKS FOR FOLLOWING THE POSTS THOUGH!
