We actually specifically asked for just the outside to be done but that's how they came back.
I can tell you that they are as smooth as a babies bum though, much to our surprise!

Hi Tintin
What Is the piston ring?
Lucky you for having a splitty. We look forward to following your progress, thanx for following mine.

Got my bumpers and Rostyles back from the powder coaters today.
Not really happy with the bumpers.... just can't seem to get them nice and straight and flat.
Love the Rostyles; may even just leave them black. (Leave the silver off)

Check out the pics. Let me know what you think.

The piston ring is a classic car club here in JHB. Always see loads of classic cars. Third Sunday of every month.

Those rosstyles look wicked in black

If you leave the wheels as they are, you are going to be disapointed after a few months, probably in less time at the coast. The powdercoating can not cover or get in where the mating edges of the face plate & the outer rim meet, moisture will get in and you will see rust forming quick. it can be sealed or need a repaint or both.

They look good in black, but maybe you could try a silver pinstrip in the grove of the star legs.... This gas mix has got everything Fuzzzzzy today.. The pinstrip will brake all the black. remember you still have those huge black tires to fit which will add to the black hole effect..
I do agree with Calooker, you need to spray a clear coat or two on the rims to lock out future rust...

You are never going to get your bumpers perfect again without taking the Metal work class Barry teaches, he has all the tools like the English wheel to roll metal. They look like they have character :hangloose:
"My other ride is your SeatCover! & She loves it!"
Sometimes you'r the statue, sometimes your the pigeon.

Cyndi/MARK,

Remember what I said, as has been pointed out above, Take a syringe, fill with black Paint (spray into a cap) Lay the rim flat, and fill the grove with paint evenly around.
Fill in a nice amount to ensure about 3 coat thickness.

When dry do other side of rim as well, clear coat is optional, but will extend life of the rim. A powder coated clear will bring it to a paar with new wheels.

Hope it helps

Thank you everybody for the advice. I'm glad you guys like it.
I am thinking of doing a pin stripe on the inserts.
Thank you Rui and Herman, I will definitely seal the joins on the rims.

Thanx Paul, received the carb this afternoon. Looks really clean! Please send details for payment.
Thanx a lot :D

Hi Cyndi

Been following your thread from the start.

You are a real inspiration to the young ones to rebuild an AC, wish my son was like this.

Luckely my daughter is also in aircool headed.

One day hopefully soon a bus will be mine again.

Flip...If only my bay was progressing this fast. I think you around my age actually...this would be the first time I have heard of anyone near school age into aircooled. Brazilia is one of my favorite busses next to a splitty.

Have a look at Junior's threads.
He started a full rebuild while still in school and made the local newspapers

Finally got time to work on the kombi today.
I worked on scraping the engine bay and my dad worked on the roof.
We should finally be getting the engine back next week, also the wheel adaptors and some bits and pieces from the powder coaters.

The next things we will be doing are the ball joints, tie-rod ends and the wiring.

Will keep you all posted

Cyndi
