Update Time! I got hold of 11 hubcaps for the bay window... 4 of them are the flat chrome caps and the rest are domes. We have cleaned off all the vinyl as far as I know and neatened it up a bit. Pics to follow. Who do I speak to in PE about an engine rebuild? Or at least get an opinion on it. Its the 2.0 aircooled.

There is a lot of guys here in PE that think they can, but ..

We have a lot of guys here on the forum that are engine experts, ask away, and when you decide where to send the engine too, then you have a better idea.

I am no expert, All I can say is that i send my engine by courier to Villiersdorp.

Haha! Buying in bulk is always cheaper! I'm thinking of getting another set of steelies and making them another colour so that if I want to change the look instantly I just swap wheels.

In the end I went with Petrol to clean the vinyl as per someones suggestion above. Definitely did the job!

okay so we stripped the engine today and         .....

The original plan was to get it reconditioned by splitbusholic but after stripping it today I decided against it because its not mint by a mile. Its honestly not worth doing a full rebuild on, its really scary. So...the reason I bought it was for a business of mine which would require driving 100km a week or so. So, in light of that I have decided to replace all 4 pistons (2 are absolutely ruined) and either repair or get a new left head. There is also a possibility of rehoning the sleeves. I will also be replacing all the filters while Im at it.

I have photos I can upload of the engine and the bus on our ghetto jack but they rather boring so I will just skip that

Anyone know of 2.0 Pistons that are for sale?

Update overdue...so the engine was a complete wreck which had me sell some parts off to another member on this forum. Still quite a few parts left though so if you looking for some poor condition CJ parts drop me a PM and I will have a look. I have decided to drop a 1600 engine into my bus in the meantime. I read somewhere on the forum that I need to modify the 2.0 transmission or something like that to get the 1600 to work well with that gearbox otherwise the flywheel starts coming loose. Anyone have any suggestions there?

The bus is progressing well into its almost rat build...not exactly a project for purists but anyway...I like it.

A stock 16tp is just powerful enough to push the smaller, lighter split around, don’t even consider a stock 16tp as a suitable sub for a type 4 engine. The mods needed to get the engine near powerful enough for use in a bay will probably be fairly close to what a reconed type 4 will cost

If U modify the gearbox to fit a type 1 engine
U won't be able to just fit the type 4 engine again U will have to undo U'r modification
look around U do find type 4 engine spares they are not as popular as type 1 but they are out there
