No, when you buy the Golf 1 Semi-Sealed beam glass, you get the mount ring with it and this has all the adjuster screws and springs you need to adjust the beam height.

All you need are the 3 tags on the body cavity, then you lineup the headlight to be center, mark off your tags location on the mount ring,(all ready on the lamp) drill and screw to tags.

Went out for a drive in the Fastback, it has been parked for a few months, but still, switched on the fuel pump, waited to fill the float chambers, and one turn later she was running.

Drove for an half hour, then when to fill her up.

On the ride home, the smell of fuel was so strong, that it reminded me of the new fuel filler hose I has imported form CIP1 but had not fitted as yet.

Spent the next few hours stretching the hose to fit the oval entry to the tank.

What a job, but hey! now no more smelly fuel fumes.

Job well done, so back into the garage she went.

So since last this thread was updated some time ago, we the, Retrovan family has had a wedding since, and my little Girl has done and gone and married.

To the couple, only the best for the future, to the Fastback, you have never looked so good before baby.

So the Fastback has once again done her pilgrimage to George Show this year.

Yes, I wanted to take the Oval Beetle, but due to the Oval/Split change over this year, we used the Fastback to join the Fugly for her last trip.

The Fastback behaved like a star, her performance like a super star, her drive like a luxury tour bus.

The type 4 running like clockwork, the 34ICT's saving fuel, and adding power.









If you not sure by now, the love between me and the fastback runs deep.....

But the wife understands, and is OK with it. ....

As I am busy moving from one house to an other, and moving the office as well, i have my toys stached all over the place.

On my visit to the Fastback today, I noticed a whole lot of oil in the catbox under the engine.

Now when parking after the Geoge trip, there was nothing dripping, as i did put the cat box under when parking and locking up the car.

Not sure if its an engine seal or gearbox seal, but by the oil, it looks more to be engine oil.

Oh Well, when I have done all the moving, the engine will have to come out, and at the same time, the gearbox will have to go to Bugger for "freshening up"

Fun with toys, love it.

So I have got the Extended 4th gear recon box from Bugger, and have moved the Fastback into the new Man-cave for gearbox fitment.

Have filled the engine with fresh oil, and started it, but have only a bit of an oil leak at the drain plug.

But what I do HAVE, is rotten fuel lines, with petrol pissing out all over the place.

Now I hear you all say in unison, "That's what happens when you buy the incorrect fuel lines...."

But NO, these where sold as "Quality Fuel Line" which rotted the rubber under the breading.

Could have been a nice fire.........

So I replaced them all with double layered reinforced German quality MARKED fuel lines.

Happy all is now in order, I will be taking out the motor and then followed by the gearbox,

May even do the gear lever bushes at the same time,

Will post photo's as I go along.

FWIW, I only buy my fuel lines at proper hose suppliers, and ensure they are rated for fuel. I just dont trust the stuff you find at FLAPS in the plastic wrapping.

You Totally right there Tony,

you can not trust the label anymore, you need to drill down to the Specifications numbers and convert.

Oh Well.. what can do...??

problem is that most people think a hose is a hose and its only pressure you have to worry about. With oil this isnt true... and with petrol it gets worse. With Methanol it gets even worse again...
and I am sure the kippy taking a 300m roll of hose, cutting it up into 1m lengths and then packing those lengths of hose into plastic bags doesnt know any different...

You Right there Tony, a lot of guys think that if you package coal, as diamonds, you can sell them as diamonds.

So the Engine is out of the Fastback, Did not know the engine can get so heavy year after year.

Had quite a job getting the engine out by my self, i know its not my 63 years, so it has to be the engine.......

When I did the back axles a few years back, I know I did torque the castle nuts correctly, but when I undid them tonight, they where definitely a lot looser.

Not sure why.

Back wheels off, drums off, back plates off...

So if life does not interfering in the morrow, I will be removing the gearbox.....

Which ratios did you ask for.

Final drive...4.125:1 or the "AS" box's 3.875:1
And 4th... Did you go for 0.82:1?

Yes Dawie, I did go the whole Hog..

It is an AS box with extended 4th gear.

As the type 4 gave me a steady 110 Kph on the old box, I am sure she will be happy to run long distance at 120 Kph with the new box.

need to get a "hide away" rev counter, to see what she is really doing.

But not hard to "Feel" what she is happy with.
