to those using Aluminum cases

Hey guys, this goes out to anyone putting together a new engine with the new aly blocks.... Rui, Bugger......

Dont make the f-up I did. Looking back, I should have seen it, but it didnt even cross my mind. I got the engine out today to see what it stopped with a bang and eventually found the problem. Fan belt pulley. The same one I used for years on my various 1600cc versions.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use an aluminum pulley with an aluminum case. I will prob pick up and seize the engine. Scrapping the pulley and possibly the block.
I was lucky, mine isnt too bad, but the pulley is throw away material. Still needs a full teardown and a touch up on the case.

Those things shouldnt touch each other ever as there is quite a large clearance between pully and case std they never touch.

I had the same problem last week with a pulley I bought from Goldwagen.The problem is,the packaging says "oversize",and that is where the problem lies.

If it is standard,Ally or steel,it should not be a problem.Mine was steel,and after the third turn it was so tight,I thought the motor siezed.

my pulley was not oversized and has run about 40 000 km in the mag case. I know there is clearance, but it still picked up something. Actually have done some research, its not the first time its happened. Time to do some more research to come up with some results.

I'm running a ally pulley with my empi casing. No problems at all.

busy trying to organise a few bits... then it all depends on the time I have between studies. Maybe Nov and then I go back to sea in Dec.... how ironic
