another tip from Tony....

dont bother with carton, its too thick. Unless the orig gasket is carton.... print it out onto a good quality paper (80grm or up to 120). first cut out the holes for the bolts and all the tricky areas. Then cut out the final profile. Viola 1x gasket.
Before you put it onto the gbox, soak it in engine oil. Then install. This helps to seal, prevents you damaging it, and when you come to removing it next time, it pops off in one piece so you done have to spend ages scraping the surfaces clean...
I have even fixed leaking water pumps at 8bar using exactly this method, so a gbox should be easy

I had the idea of using 'double thickness' of thick paper - cardboards for gasgets. Does this make sense? Cardboard, that is as thick as two thick papersheets....

I usually use good printer paper if I need a thin gasket (80 gram) otherwise, chart paper for something thicker, but still thin. If you need a thicker gasket, I have also used the back of those 100 page A4 pads. Dip in oil once again....

That is probably the word I was looking for Tony. "Chart paper".

BTW, did you take a trip up to the northern parts of France then over the weekend? I am still bummed that I couldn't be there...

Geeeezz... I should sure hope so

Anyway (uhm... back to the thread that is), I spent the afternoon draining the oil of the gearbox, trial fitted the replacement nosecone and started cleaning the box - what a mess! Not finished yet, but I'm quite happy with the result so far

It took me 2 days to read throught this thread and i have been making notes all along... :puterwork:

Firstly your Stearing wheel rocks...man!!!

Secondly: a few things id like to ask.. bear with me if you dont mind...

Window washer bottle and mechanism: Do you still have extra set for sale or where can i get that
Window Jet Nozzels: Would they work on a standard late model beetle and do you have one for sale - i like the metal parts
Golf Indicator/wiper Unit: Is that golf 2/3 unit and how will that go around a beetle steering colomb??

Wish i could do IRS on my project beetle...ag, mayb some day...
