turbo time!!! panel beating

Post by vuyo »

Hi guyz I guess its time for me to join the turbo revolution
As most of you know I have a beetle with a 1.8 8v golf engine
Image
So I decided to turbo charge it so I got hold of a 1.9 Polo TDI turbo I don’t know what size it is but I estimate that it’s a T2?
bolts on to the head no neet for modz
Image
Its gong to be a blow through system , the charge is going to blow into a 36DRLA carburetor that’s turbo prepped
The biggest challenge I had to face was creating an inlet manifold to accommodate the DRLA , so I got 12mil thick aluminum plate and fabricated a flange and some 38 mil tubing to feed the carb into the inlet and got it all welded up.

Space is an issue the throttle wheel needed some space so I cut out a little chunk out the bug

Next step fabricate a turbo hat.

Remember that you need to lower the compression otherwise your head gaskets wont last ! Also a dumpvalve , wastegate and intercooler would be nice!
