I've used this specific gearbox for very long now and I've never broken anything in it... and believe me I drive her like a hooligan. Launching at 6000rpm with bf drag tires. :)
cool i changed mine to a 1300 Gbox as well ,, i must say it is quicker but i feel like i lost out in top end ??

Man, I had a turbo beetle before and cant wait to feel that torque again when the turbo starts boosting... It's that kind of power that makes you loose you mind.

A beetle is not built for top speed... in my bug with the 1300 gearbox I can run 200 easy, but still it does not feel too good.

for me accellaration is more important than top speed. I'd rather only be able to do 120kph but gaet there in under 5 secs.

its all over by 100 anyway - 160 at a push
If you take an M3 thru 1st and second, you.ve won, it doesnt matter that he comes flying past at 140, you still whipped him where it matters

just think about it this way.... if the bug is ahead for any decent length of time, the M3 driver will never live it down, even if he catches and overtakes you....

Hi everyone.
I had a quick thought today... On the turbo setup, it will be worthless running a intercooler as there is almost no airflow in the back. So I'm considering going for a charge cooler that uses water for cooling. I will then use a Golf vr6 electric waterpump and fit a small radiator in the front for the charge cooling.

Will check today what is available and what it costs.

:)

air to water intercooler.... good idea.
What I have heard that is pretty good is to use an oil cooler (if you cant fins a specific intercooler made for the application), get the cooler new and weld on a chamber around the fins. Use the water to pass from one side of the fins to the other (original air side) and route the charge air through the original oil side of the cooler. This apperently works quite well, you just need it to be big enough not to create a restriction in the air flow, because pressure lost here, adds to less pressure available at the inlets....

Good luck

Here is an idea, what about putting the intercooler under the car next to the gearbox, that way it's out of the way and you have loads of space, can manufacture an air scoop underneath to redirect the airflow and you can use intercoolers on each side of the box. Speaking about the box a while back I got in contact with a dude in jhb who builds hydrolic box's for the formula ford series as they use the beetle box's. For 10k he would put a box together for you with the ratio's of your choice.
