My Westy, a '70 model has a brake booster but I can see it's been fitted by someone else. The reservoir also sits behind the drivers seat on the separation wall. Maybe that is the clue?

This is strange. While my boosted 1971 microbus has very sharp brakes, the lack of a booster on my 1971 single cab and double cab is not missed. Brakes are still very sharp, but need a bit more leg to get the same braking effort.

Could be that they upgraded the brakes when they did the engine conversion , if
you do a conversion with much more power than the original engine it would make sense to
upgrade the braking system as well
